Egg-citing news! On the Perch Bird Park will commence construction over the coming months to transform the bird park. Proudly supported by the NSW government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW through the 2017-2018 Regional Tourism Fund, seven new exhibits will be constructed. Zoo Curator Steve Sass said ‘We are extremely pleased to have our hard work acknowledged through the success of our application’. The bird park opened in 2015 and is due to welcome it’s 30,000th visitor in the coming weeks.
‘We plan to have 20 new species upon completion, so visitors to the park can expect some changes over the next 2 years’ said Head Bird Keeper Linda Sass. ‘This funding has allowed the bird park to continue to grow into what has already become a must-do for visitors to the Sapphire Coast, into a unique wildlife experience for Regional NSW’.
Every winter, On the Perch Bird Park reduces its trading hours. We are now open Thursday to Sunday (four days a week) including the July School Holidays. We are still open between 10am and 3pm and our Meet the Keeper talks are at 11am and 1pm. And of course, our famous Coffee and Cake Day is still on every Friday! Catch you at the Perch this winter.
After the horrific firestorm that came through Tathra last week, there isn’t a minute that goes by that we don’t think about everyone in our great little community that has been affected by this disaster. We thank everyone for their messages of support, offer of help, either by phone, facebook or through the website. These messages have been very uplifting for our staff to hear your well wishes.
The park itself was not hit by the firestorm of Sunday and the subsequent fires from Monday. Staff have been very busy cleaning up from the horrendous winds and ash and dust fall out. And now we are nearly ready to reopen! We can announce that the bird park will reopen at 10am this Sunday 25th March.
